I love audiobooks. We used to borrow cassettes or CDs from our local library and listen any time we were in the car. We live in a rural area, about 30 minutes from everywhere, and the kids used to look forward to the next installment of whatever books we were listening to. Visits to out-of-town grandparents also gave us listening opportunities in three-hour blocks of time.

I read long ago that kids comprehend at a listening level higher than their reading level, and that’s why we should continue to read to them, even when they can read for themselves. We read to our kids long into their high school years, and it was not only nice family time, but we could read in different accents, explain stuff as we went along, and just have fun with it.

Thanks for the audiobook listening app recommendations!
