I think silent and audible reading are beneficial. And to your point about not sharing things aloud, I'm laughing because I'm forever having a terrific idea until I start to tell someone about it, and as I share, I see the flaws in the plan. But I suppose that's one of the things that's steered me toward being a verbal processer. Things make more sense to me sometimes if I talk them out.

I used to love the silent reading times at school when I was a kid. I could finally just relax and just enjoy 20 minutes or so while the teacher graded papers or whatever they did as the class kept themselves occupied.

Reading aloud is a great way to practice vocal inflections! And reading aloud is, on occasion, the way we find out we're pronouncing something incorrectly. There are so many benefits.
