I’m in full agreement with you. No wonder so many non-Christians have an impression of Christians being hateful. It’s not our job to be the Holy Spirit for another, but it is commanded of us to love. We as supposed Christ-followers need to remember that 1 Corinthians 13 isn’t only for reading at weddings; it’s a reminder that our words mean nothing without love to back it up. And I don’t remember any teachings about big and little sins — to try to make someone feel bad about their “worse” sin is to try to keep myself comfortable about my own.
