It’s amazing to me that people come up with such quick excuses when the truth is that they’ve never actually stopped to really think things out when it comes to how they work. We used to run into the same responses when people found out we homeschooled: “Oh, I could never do that. I would worry that my kids weren’t learning the right things, or that we wouldn’t have the self-discipline, blah blah blah.” What it all boiled down to was never actually thinking it through.

My workspace has changed over the years as I’ve found what doesn’t work for me (laptop in the middle of the living room, wearing earbuds for quiet, balancing a notebook and pen on top of whatever cat is nearby) and what does (desk for 90% of my work and laptop for traveling). I like that you have your preferences but they’re adaptable and customized, depending on the circumstances.

Thanks for a great reminder to not only call people out on occasion for reflex responses, but to be aware of not giving any of my own.
