I’ve never understood what prompts some people to offer criticism or advice to strangers. My daughter works at a fuel desk in a truck stop, and she’s full of stories about people who tell her their theories on why she has acne, their opinions on her haircut, you name it.
A former boss of mine would handle these things so well. If someone would seek him out specifically to criticize the way he was doing his job (worship leader at our church), he’d listen for a moment, then put his hand out to shake and say, “Have we actually met? I’d love to sit down with you and talk about your years as a worship pastor.” Of course the person would have zero experience but somehow felt it was their job to dictate the workings of a job they’d never done. He always wondered what they’d do if he showed up to their place of work to tell them what they were doing wrong.
