My extended family was forever buying me angel statues and pins as gifts, and I have NEVER (I cannot stress that enough) expressed a desire for, or a liking of, angel paraphernalia. It's almost as if they see them as some sort of protective talisman in their houses.
If I've read my Bible correctly, then as you've stated, all the angels were male. And I assume they're pretty terrifying in appearance (due to sheer size or strength, perhaps?)—otherwise, their first words to just about everyone wouldn't need to be "Do not be afraid." How that turned into cute little cartoonish angels or delicate, fairy-like women, I have no idea.
