Sharing the clunkers and the frustration with our editing friends blows off the steam a bit, and allows us to be gracious when we need to. Otherwise, we’d be snarky to everyone, and even if they deserve it, that’s not going to help them learn. I like sharing things with people I know who have gone through it and will understand.

I went through a similar situation with an author who kept trying to blame me each time he was unsatisfied with editors I recommended (after he wouldn’t listen to my evaluation of his writing). I finally snapped after number four, and told him — as politely as I could manage at that point — it was my opinion that he’d never find a suitable editor because he refused to accept that his writing needed work. Making excuses about nobody understanding the depth of your work doesn’t really fly with professional editors who each have decades of experience in your niche.
