That seems to be a universal truth, doesn’t it? When I’m editing, the people who expect me to cut my fee (because of course, everyone is a struggling student/professor/single person/married person) are always the ones who argue every comma and every suggestion, no matter how kindly worded, no matter how firmly backed up by resources.

I am always professional in the interaction, even if I rant to my husband or take a mini-tantrum privately. Reactions are what they are, but progressing through them before responding is the key to being viewed as a mature pro.
