There’s a reason for the saying “hurt people hurt people.” I had an experience similar to yours about nine months ago. I needed to do a U-turn and thought I had a completely clear spot, and out of nowhere, this speeding pickup truck appeared from a side road, honked, and then tailed me (honking continuously) for almost two miles. He kept pulling up beside me to try and force me off the road (even after I’d turned, and the new road was winding with a ravine on one side). He almost caused an accident twice with oncoming cars because of riding on the wrong side of the road, trying to get beside me. It was one of the scariest things I’d ever experienced, and all I could think of was that I could NOT stop under any circumstances, because he was not stable, I’m a woman, and there would be no one around to help. I was just calculating how much farther I needed to drive to get to the nearest State Police station when thankfully we came to an intersection where I could go through and he couldn’t immediately follow.

All I could think of after I’d calmed down was that there had to be something more going on that caused such an overreaction. If he hadn’t been speeding, my U-turn would never have been an issue, and most people may have honked once and then left it. That he held onto that rage for miles without abating was more telling than anything else. If I’d felt it was safe to stop, I would have gladly apologized, but I just couldn’t trust him to not get physical.
